Listen to the Premier on 6PR. It is worth noting that the 50% to 90% local content levels he talks about for petroleum and mining projects, respectively, includes things like catering, office rent, airfares and phone bills. He provides no figures for skilled work performed locally. It is also worth noting that the Premier implies that local workshops will fill up when Gorgon begins construction. The truth is the vast majority of Gorgon’s 300,000 plus tonnes of fabricated steel has been awarded to overseas workshops and the only work our local workshops will get is remedial work, fixing up botched work performed overseas.
